Driver accidentally runs over, kills man she tried to help

An Arizona woman who pulled over to help a man in distress Thursday forgot to put her car in park and the vehicle ran over and killed the man, police said.

The woman, who has not been identified, stopped to help Michael Phillips, 34, who was standing on a sidewalk when he appeared to have a medical emergency, NBC News reported.

As the 55-year-old woman stopped to help Phillips, he fell forward into the street.

In her rush to help, she forgot to put her car in park and the 2004 Buick sedan rolled forward and hit Phillips, AZ Central reported.

Phillips was taken to a hospital, where he died. The Maricopa County medical examiner will determine his cause of death.

The woman was not injured, and police said she was not impaired.
