Firefighters in Missouri responded to a blaze at the Kansas City Zoo.
A fire broke out in a building that is the home to meerkats and other small animals in the Africa section of the zoo, KMBC reported.
KCTV reported the structure also housed foxes. The location is called the "behind the scenes building," KSHB reported.
All of the animals were removed from the building but some did have to walk on hot coals. A veterinarian is checking the animals out to make sure they are OK, KMBC reported.
Firefighters had challenges getting to the building due to narrow service roads that were too small for the large fire trucks to get to the fire location, KMBC reported.
