Michael Middaugh, 49, of Elkhart, is charged with three counts of rape, one count of burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, and one count of criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, WBND reported.

Middaugh was released from prison earlier this year after serving a 13-year sentence for a child molestation conviction, WXIN reported. He did not register as a sex offender in Elkhart County, and a warrant for his arrest was issued in July, the television station reported.

According to Marshall County Prosecutor E. Nelson Chipman, on Aug. 28, Middaugh stopped at an Amish home in rural Marshall County at 10 a.m., WNDU reported.

“He stated through the door that he was lost and needed directions to Wakarusa,” Chipman told the television station.

After the woman gave him directions, Middaugh allegedly asked for her to write them down, WBND reported. When she returned to hand him the directions, Middaugh allegedly grabbed her, put her head against the side of the home and placed a knife to her throat, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Middaugh allegedly asked for money, and after the woman complied, he bound her in zip ties and took her to a bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her, the television station reported.

Middaugh was arrested Friday and booked into the Elkhart County Jail, WNDU reported. He will be transferred to Marshall County, where his bond will be set at $200,000 the television station reported.
