A 26-year-old man was booked into jail after a King County sheriff's deputy said he shattered the window of the department's Fairwood storefront office and trespassed last week.

When the deputy arrived at the office, he found the man sitting at a table with his feet up on a chair, watching television in the back room, where paperwork is completed, officials said. The man had just finished smoking a cigar.

When asked if he had broken the window, the man casually replied, "Yep," the deputy said.

The deputy said the man went on to tell him he would rather go to jail for breaking into the storefront than “kill his roommate.”

The man reportedly feared deputies would be angry with him for the break-in and had brought along a peace offering: a fresh bag of doughnuts he had bought at a nearby grocery store.

Nothing was stolen.

Officials said they love doughnuts but don’t recommend that method of delivery.
