Named after Shep, a 10-year-old beagle-basset hound mix adopted by Russell Clothier.
Clothier had the idea after he volunteered at shelters where he saw elderly dogs never getting adopted, according to WDAF.
He bought the forgotten pets a home of their own.
"Their first eight or 10 years, they've been in a home, and suddenly their home is gone. To be able to give them that feeling again and make their remaining years a golden time for them, it makes all of us feel good," Clothier told WDAF.
The house was renovated with kennels for about 20 dogs, a special shower and a large pen for them to have outside time.
