While riding an electric scooter, 27-year-old De’Shuan Williams allegedly tossed a lit firework at an Atlanta police officer at about 11:45 p.m., police said.

The officer was in his patrol car when the firework ignited, but he was not hurt, police said. Authorities have not identified the type of firework that was thrown.

The officer tried to stop Williams and arrest him, but the suspect got off the scooter and began to run, police said. After a brief chase, the officer used a Taser to stop him.

Williams was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with minor cuts, and he will be charged with simple battery and obstruction upon his release, police said. He will be booked into the Fulton County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
