Eugene police spokesman John Hankemeier said officers responded around 6:30 a.m., The Oregonian reported. The driver had already left the scene but was later located by investigators, Hankemeier told the newspaper.
The case is being investigated as a hit-and-run incident, Hankemeier told the Oregonian.
Police have not released the identities of the driver and the person who died, and no arrests have been made, the newspaper reported.
Hankemeier said police are seeking surveillance footage from nearby businesses to aid in the investigation.
