Hodgkinson died after being shot by law enforcement, The Washington Post reported.
Scalise was wounded in the hip but also suffered from broken bones and damage to internal organs. Shortly after the shooting, he was in critical condition at a local hospital, The New York Times reported in 2017.
A year later, Scalise took the field in the first inning of the annual game, taking his traditional position at second base, grabbed a ground ball and threw out the first batter of the game. He stayed on the field through the second batter, but that first inning appearance was all he was able to do, CBS News reported in 2018.
In tonight's game, the Louisiana Republican will once again take to the field at the Nationals Ballpark in Washington, D.C., The Advocate reported.

"Just being able to move around a lot more than last year," Scalise told The Advocate.
And while he is able to walk without depending on crutches, he will have a pinch runner if he gets a base hit, the newspaper reported.
Scalise and other lawmakers from both sides from the aisle will take the field Wednesday night with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
Money raised at the game will go to charities like The Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, and the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
