Super Bowl argument leaves 1 dead, police in California say

An argument over who will win Sunday’s Super Bowl has left a man dead in Fresno, according to multiple reports.

Police were called just before noon Saturday to respond to a report of a person shot at a home in southwest Fresno, KSEE reported.

A homeless man approached another man, later identified by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office as 24-year-old Frank Rojas, during a barbeque, KSEE reported. The two men liked different teams and began to argue over which would win Sunday's Super Bowl game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, according to the Fresno Bee.

Lt. Charlie Chamalbide told KSEE and the Bee that the homeless man pulled out a "makeshift weapon" and shot Rojas once in the abdomen before running from the scene. The Bee reported the man was later found by police at a nearby homeless encampment.

Rojas underwent surgery at Community Regional Medical Center, but was later pronounced dead, police told KSEE and KFSN on Sunday.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested after the shooting, KSEE reported.

Authorities continue to investigate.
