Tennessee teen accidentally shoots himself with gun left in parents’ car, police say

A Tennessee teenager suffered non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday after police said he accidentally shot himself behind a mall.

The 13-year-old boy was sitting in his parents' car behind Woodson's Mall in LaFollette when he took a 9 mm handgun from the dashboard, WBIR reported. The gun discharged and a bullet entered his left and leg, the television station reported.

The teen was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance, according to police.

Investigators are working with the district attorney general's office to determine whether charges should be filed, WBIR reported.
