Workers with Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium were responding to a report of an injured turtle when they noticed the non-maritime animal atop a channel marker.
“Oh, my God, he’s adorable,” a rescuer is heard saying in video of the rescue.
Police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to help snare the raccoon. The animal shook out of the net and started swimming in the water after it was first captured. Workers recaptured it and put the animal in a cooler before safely releasing it back on land.
