A Florida teen has died days after an 8-year-old boy fired a BB gun, striking him in the eye, authorities said.
According to WFLA-TV and Spectrum News, the shooting occurred Feb. 1 outside a Bank of America in Tampa. Ivan Johnson, 17, was in the car when a boy in the backseat discovered the BB gun and fired the weapon, authorities told WFLA. The adult who had driven the vehicle to the bank was not in the car at the time, Spectrum News reported.
Johnson was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died, officials said.
The state Attorney's Office is investigating the case, Spectrum News reported. Police have not charged anyone in connection with the shooting, according to WFLA.
