The scenic two-hour drive to Hocking Hills was almost part of the getaway itself. Windy roads took us near cliff-faced walls topped with tall pines that eventually gave way to our rustic destination. To commence the beginning of our retreat, we plopped down on the porch swing, and could clearly see why it was named “Hill of a View.”

A wide wrap-around porch had enough seating for our whole crew, overlooking two small man-made lakes, rolling Appalachian hills, impressive rock formations and a picturesque ranch across the way. The view of the forest from the hot tub was a solid 10/10 and personally my favorite porch amenity.

After a couple of quality hours melting away stress in the hot tub, you can bet that we headed down the stone path to the fire ring below for s’mores.

LET’S GO INSIDE AND WARM UP

The Hill of a View cabin is spacious in every sense. Three levels boast room for 13 guests to sleep comfortably, including three bathrooms. Very clean and smelling of sweet pine, the cabin had everything we’d forgotten at home.

With all the options of where to sleep, I had a luxurious queen bed all to myself. Talk about waking up on the right side of the bed. I woke up under the warmest of fleece cabin blankets while the sun poked through the trees into my room and the smell of freshly-brewed coffee wafted in from the kitchen.

The day was spent playing rounds of pool and enjoying the view with some cold beers in the game room and mini bar downstairs.

Of course, making tasty appetizers for the group was a breeze with the cabin’s roomy kitchen, which featured a center island bar with stools for everyone.

Other great features we weren’t expecting: an outdoor seasonal shower, a grill on the deck and a huge master bedroom (DIBS!) with a walk-in glass tile shower — not to mention hiking trails right outside our back door.

Overall, our stay at the Hill of a View cabin was everything we were looking for in a nearby getaway. We returned to Dayton bright-eyed and smelling of bonfire and a good time.
