The recently-opened Gem City Market has a new local vendor that will add a bit of sweetness to shoppers’ weekly grocery trip.

Twist Cupcakery, also member owners at the market, announced their popular Cupcakes in a Jar are now available for purchase inside GCM in a display located next to the hot food counter and deli.

“We are so excited to be expanding into OUR market,” wrote Twist Cupcakery on its Facebook page. “Thank you (Gem City Market) for having Twist Cupcakery’s gourmet Cupcakes in a Jar available to the community! Go grab your jars, as well as your other groceries today and be sure to tag us in your posts.”

A rotating lineup of Cupcakes in a Jar flavors will be available inside the market seven days a week. Twist is also working on creating a special flavor dedicated to the Gem City Market, according to the bakery’s owner, Kate River.

River said expanding into the market is part of the bakery’s effort to form more partnerships with grocery stores, restaurants and boutiques in the community. This week, Twist Cupcakery announced their cupcake jars are also available at Butter Café near the University of Dayton campus.

“I’m just really in awe of it (Gem City Market),” River said. “I think it’s amazing. My husband and I, and my family, have been members of the market for years. We have been anticipating and just been so excited about what it means to the community and that symbol of unity. The pride and the ownership of when you own something within your community — just to be able to be a vendor, I’m so excited.”

Gem City Market opened its doors to the public for the first time on May 12.

Twist Cupcakery will continue its production of all its desserts at its original location downtown at 25 S. Saint Clair St. in Dayton.
