Want to learn how to do brush lettering or calligraphy? Check out these local workshops

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to do brush lettering or calligraphy, here’s your chance.

Loveleigh Loops , a calligraphy company founded by twin sisters Jillian Reece and Jordan Moran, will be hosting two workshops at Knack Creative, 42 W. 5th St., Dayton.

The evening workshops are designed to provide a creative experience in a relaxed environment. Options include Intro to Brush Lettering, a modern, trendy style, and Intro to Calligraphy, a classic, elegant script.

The brush lettering workshop is $75, and the calligraphy workshop is $90. Both workshops are offered as a package for $145. To register visit loveleighloops.com.

If you're a newbie, don't worry: no experience is required, and all supplies are provided, including the take-home starter kit.

The sisters took their first basic calligraphy class at age 11 and have dabbled in various art forms ever since.

“We spent hours in our craft room experimenting with markers, paper, paint, beads, string, and any other supply we could get our little hands on,” Reece said.

“After graduating from college, I started a handmade greeting card Etsy shop. I took a pointed pen calligraphy class that fall, and immediately taught Jordan everything from that class. Our love of calligraphy was once again reborn!”

When they moved apart in 2014, their shared love of calligraphy kept them connected, specifically through a shared Instagram account dedicated to their hand-lettered quotes, which has gained almost 3,000 followers.

“We have spent countless hours over the past two years on Instagram, YouTube, and other scattered resources teaching ourselves the art of hand lettering,” said Moran. “We compiled the key fundamentals in our easy-to-follow workbooks that teach you calligraphy from A to Z. We wish this workshop was available when we started out -- it would have saved us a lot of time.”

Reece and Moran are excited to share their love of lettering with Dayton. “Whether you are looking to start a new hobby or just need a fun night out, our workshops provide a creative way to spend the evening,” Reece said. “The classes are two and a half hours long but the skills you take home last forever. Calligraphy is everywhere!”

Loveleigh Loops looks to the future with a vision.

"After our May 23 and 24 events, we plan to teach more workshops about different styles of lettering and more advanced techniques," Moran said.
"We will have vendor booths to display our work at several upcoming events, including the Miamisburg Spring Fling Festival this weekend (May 20-21), Xenia First Fridays (July 7), and the Dayton Maker Faire (August 5-6). For those unable to attend workshops, we plan to add to our online teaching resources including digital downloads, YouTube videos, and Instagram posts."
