Pizza wars poised to re-ignite with ‘fast-casual’ chains eyeing SW Ohio (October 2015)
This weekend’s events, according to PizzaFire spokesman Stephen Dickman, include:
• A ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Friday between 10:30 a.m. and noon;
• A pizza-making contest for kids from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Kids will be able to choose any toppings to build their own pizza, and the winner’s pizza will become a special-offer pizza during the month of May;
• Hourly drawings for “free pizza for a year” Friday through Sunday. Winners will receive a card good for one free pizza a month for 12 months. Entrants do not need to be present to win, Dickman said.
• The events will support two local non-profit organizations: Big Brother Big Sister and St Vincent de Paul. PizzaFire official said 25 percent of each day’s total sales will be donated to the organizations.
New pizza chain to launch its first Dayton-area location in Kettering (March 2016)
Cleveland-based PizzaFire has a fast-serve, built-to-order service line similar to Chipotle and Subway, offering 40 toppings, six sauces, and five cheeses on a pie that is placed into an 800-degree and cooked in three minutes. The concept is similar to Kettering-based Rapid Fired Pizza — which launched in late 2015 and now has multiple locations throughout the Dayton area — and Seattle-based MOD Pizza, which is opening its first two Dayton-area locations in Englewood and Centerville.
