NEA awards Dayton Performing Arts Alliance $10K for Stained Glass Series

The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance has been awarded $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to sustain expressive events in the Dayton community.

The money stems from NEA Chairman Jane Chu's approval of more than $82 million to fund arts projects across the country, according to a prepared statement.

The grant will support the Stained Glass Series of community concerts performed by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and local choirs.

"The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support organizations such as the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance in serving its community by providing excellent and accessible arts experiences," said Chu.

The orchestra performs in Dayton churches for free striving to celebrate the human spirit through classical and gospel music and unite the community.

"We are humbled and honored to receive this grant from the [NEA]," said Paul Helfrich, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance president and CEO.

"This grant is an important vote of confidence in the work we are doing to serve the entire community and to matter to Dayton. We are proud of this important recognition from a funder with a national perspective and truly appreciative of the agency's support for our Stained Glass Series."

The Stained Glass Concerts are a part of outreach efforts conducted by the Norma Ross Memorial Community Concerts, which honors Mrs. Norma Ross, a tireless advocate for music and minority youth.

The 2016-17 Stained Glass Series concludes June 25 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

Below is the 2017-18 schedule for the Stained Glass Concert Series:

  • Nov. 19, 2017, 5 p.m. at Inspiration Church in Dayton
  • Feb. 11, 2018, 5 p.m. at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton
  • April 8, 2018, 5 p.m. at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Trotwood
