The holidays are over, and now a mixture of winter blues and cabin fever may be setting in. Don't despair! This is one of the most festive weekend's of the winter! At WinterFolk Fest you can warm your body and soul this weekend.

Friday January 12th

There's lots of fun to get into downtown on Friday night, with some great rock shows including: A Voice of Your Own, Morning Theft, Gam Gam Buckmaster, and Radar  are all performing at  Blind Bob'sIf you're into indie / alternative music, this is your spot! 9pm. $5 cover. 21+

Over at  Hannah's, you can hear the roots / alt country / southern rock and punk influenced  The Typical Johnsons. They are getting lots of praise, so stop on out and check out their original tunes from 10pm-1am. $5 cover.

Punk fans are in for a ragin show at  Mike's Bike Park , also downtown. It's the The Voice Of God 's album release show, and they're sharing the stage with  Waterheads (Cincy Punk Rock'n'Roll),  TBA These Bastards Again (CBUS Punk), and  Negative Protein (DYT hardcore punk). $5 cover. All ages. BYOB. 8pm-12:30am

I think it's well worth the drive up 75 for a sweet rock show from  Krunk Town Boogie and Crosley Court. Two seriously great bands at  Oscar's Bar.  10pm. $5 cover. 21+

If you're west of town, there's a spectacular guitarist  Spencer Elliott,  performing at Taffy's of Eaton . Really wonderful for anyone who really appreciates complex fret work. Show from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm.

South of town, if you're looking for an excellent meal along with some sultry jams, check out  Kevin Dumont  and  Jeon McConnell at Watermark in Miamisburg. This is a regular Friday night gig, and this week features special guest  Chris Bowman. A truly perfect date night for sure! 8:30-10:30pm.

Saturday January 13th

If you're in the Yellow Springs area on Saturday afternoon, be sure to pop into  Emporium Wines & The Underdog Cafe for a free  Edge  performance by a string and harp quartet from our very own Dayton Philharmonic ! Their goal is to bring unconventional music to unconventional places, so grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy! Free event! 3-4pm.

Another early show is Hannah's Weekly All Ages Blues Session from 5-8pm, hosted by the Troubled Waters Band. If you're a musician - bring your instrument. If you're a singer - bring your voice. If you're a fan - bring yourself. Children are welcome to participate too! Late night, they keep the Blues rollin' with  Blues Healer from 9pm - 2am.

One of the most highly anticipated shows this season is the 5th annual

WinterFolk Festival,

featuring

a night of non-stop music from the best roots and folk musicians from the tri-state area. There will be performances

 from: The Repeating Arms, Starving in the Belly of the Whale, Bloody Tambourine and the Musical Mafia (Indiana), The Goldsberry's (Columbus), Tod Weidner, David Payne, Kyleen Downes, and OldNews.

This is an all ages show at one of downtown's friendliest venues,  The Yellow Cab TavernIn addition to the fabulous bands performing, visual artists will be on hand displaying and selling their artwork. Drunken Waffle food truck will be on site, and craft beer and cocktails are available to those 21 & up with proper ID. Doors will open at 7pm. Music at 8pm. Tickets available exclusively at the door for $10, children 12 & under are free.

For alternative rock fans, this is hand's down the "don't miss" show of the weekend. 9pm doors, 10pm showtime. $7 cover. 21+

South of town, Blues fans will be in store for a real treat when the Dayton Blues Society celebrates their Road To Memphis winners: Ben Levin Duo and The Soul Fixers on Saturday night. Check out these acts before they head down to represent Dayton! 6-11pm at  Blue Note Bistro in Miamisburg.

Yellow Springs is going to be rockin' with local original improv band  Subterraean at Peach's Grill. Check out their new line-up with Stephen Buttree on keys and sax. The keys add a new dimension to their already complex and funky sound. It's a free show! So if you haven't checked these guys out, this is a great night to do so!

And last but not least,  Oscar's Bar in Vandalia is hosting their New Year's Deathfest II, with a host of metal / hard core bands performing:  Nak'ay, Choking, Deterioration, Swamp Squat,  Menstrual Munchies, FaithXtractor, Flesh WarfareCouple SkateSyphilic DiarrheaWell of Night, and Lectularius. $10 at the door. Doors 8pm
