Jon Hamm, Ed Harris join Tom Cruise in 'Top Gun: Maverick'

Jon Hamm and Ed Harris are joining Tom Cruise for his “Top Gun” sequel.

Deadline reported that Hamm and Harris join Lewis Pullman for the Paramount Pictures movie, the studio confirmed to Variety. Their specific roles have not been named, but they join previously named actors Cruise, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller.

Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, and Teller will play the protege of Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who is mentoring a new generation of Navy fighter pilots. Teller's character is also the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, who was played by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 original film.

Monica Barbaro, of "Unreal," has been cast as Teller's love interest in the sequel, according to Variety. "Insecure" actor Jay Ellis has also joined the film, according to Deadline.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is set for a July 12, 2019, release. It is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who worked on the original, as well as Cruise and David Ellison, of Skydance Media.
