This weekend is a chance to learn how Daytonians once dined during a harvest feast at Carillon Historical Park.

The tavern dinners are held by candlelight in Newcom Tavern, Dayton’s oldest standing building.

Costumed interpreters will cook and serve a three-course-meal cooked over an open hearth in the building that was once a jail, church and Montgomery County’s first courthouse.

The authentic recipes have been taken from a 19th century receipt book, giving guests a taste of how Daytonians dined.

Space is limited, and reservations are required. Additional tavern dinners are planned for Nov. 1 and 2. Private tavern dinners are also available.
