Chuck Norris named honorary Texan by state Senate

The Texas Senate named actor Chuck Norris an honorary Texan on Tuesday.

The Oklahoma-born Norris also was presented with a Senate gavel, used once to proclaim passage of a resolution honoring him, and a flag that had been flown over the Alamo. Festivities ended with Norris shaking hands and posing for photos with senators at the front of the chamber.

Best known for his role in “Walker, Texas Ranger” from 1993 to 2001 (and the outrageous “Chuck Norris facts” extolling his toughness), the martial artist and his wife, Gena Norris, were in Austin to discuss Kickstart Kids, their nonprofit designed to help struggling students.

Senate Resolution 569 passed unanimously, because who would vote against Chuck Norris — the guy who was going to be the fifth face on Mount Rushmore, but granite wasn't strong enough to depict him?
