A business called The Silver Slipper applied to the Ohio Division of Liquor Control in April for a license to serve alcohol at a now-vacant space at 506 Wayne Ave. in Dayton. The location is adjacent to Oregon Tails Pet Salon and Found Treasures 4 You, and is across the street from Wheat Penny restaurant.

The owners of The Silver Slipper described the potential business as a “wine bar and salon” in other state records filed last month. Efforts to reach the owners of The Silver Slipper on April 6, were not successful.

An application for a liquor license is often submitted in the early stages in the potential development of a new business, and does not always lead to a new business opening at that site. Many potential pitfalls — construction, zoning, financial constraints — still must be navigated before a license-holder can begin operating and serving alcohol.

But the license application is an encouraging sign of the newfound vitality of the strip of Wayne Avenue north and south of East Fifth Street, where a craft brewery and two coffee shops are already in the works.
