A Pennsylvania institution is days away from opening up shop in the  Dayton area.

Primanti Bros. announced last month plans to open for dinner April 13 at 2430 North Fairfield Road in Beavercreek.

The chain is beloved in the greater Pittsburgh area for its "Almost Famous" sandwich, which is packed with meat (salami, turkey or roast beef), coleslaw and french fries on Italian bread. Yep, that sandwich is as delicious as it sounds, but I had already tried it.

I went another route during a recent trip to Pittsburgh and listened when Primanti Bros' kielbasa & cheese called my name. I got it with double meat for $8.69.

You've probably guessed it: I didn't NEED the double meat.

Like the Almost Famous, the lightly spiced kielbasa and provolone cheese sandwich came loaded with french fries and crunchy coleslaw. It took a minute to figure out how to eat this monster, but once I did....

I only got through half of it. The leftovers made a delicious breakfast.

My dining companion was a big fan of the restaurant's big and juicy wings with a spicy garlic sauce. There are nine sauces in all from garlic parmesan to XX Hot.

The big hit, though, was the tots.

The Terror Tots were anything but frightening for $5.99. Crispy tater tots with queso, bacon bits, jalapenos and sriracha sauce.

People know Primanti Bros. for its "Almost Famous” sandwich, but it is far from the only hit on the menu. Photo: Primanti Bros./Facebook
