National Security Council’s Alexander Vindman could be first fired in post-impeachment purge

A national security official who testified against President Donald Trump during the impeachment inquiry could be reassigned as early as today, multiple news outlets reported.

The White House is considering shifting Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman to a position within the Department of Defense, The Washington Post and Bloomberg reported early Friday morning.

Vindman, a National Security Council aide who testified during House impeachment proceedings that ended in acquittal for Trump on Wednesday, had already intimated to superiors at the NSC his plans to leave his post by the close of February, The Post reported.

The move to oust Vindman more quickly is expected to be portrayed by the White House as strictly NSC downsizing and not retaliation for his testimony, Bloomberg reported.
