The Westbrock Funeral Home at 1712 Wayne Ave., was found in 1922 by Ben Westbrock and was the first in Dayton, where before, undertakers operated out of storefronts and wakes were held in the home. Westbrock was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and is still operated by members of the Westbrock family. Walnut Hills sits on about 250 acres of Dayton land running the length of Wayne and Wyoming Avenues up to Watervliet Avenue and Pursell Avenue. VIVIENNE MACHI / STAFF
