“Star Trek has entertained, educated and inspired generations of fans which makes an exhibit exploring Star Trek’s role in advancing science and technology a perfect fit for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis,” Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO of The Children’s Museum, said in a news release.

The exhibit will explore how science fiction inspired real space travel and how “Star Trek” has impacted culture, society, art, technology, and fashion.

“Together, families will undoubtedly reminisce about the past, enjoying the iconic characters and artifacts they’ve loved, while discussing the impact ‘Star Trek’ has had influencing the future by promoting equality and advancing science and popular culture,” Patchen said.

More than 100 artifacts from the television and film series will be on display, including a replica of Captain Kirk’s chair, tricorders and phasers from the original series, Data’s uniform from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and Tribbles.

George Takei, the actor who portrayed Hikuru Sulu, the helmsman of the U.S.S. Enterprise, has narrated a sound and light show specifically for the museum’s Schaefer Planetarium and Space Object Theater. The theater will become a multimedia experience and include the escape pod used by Captain Kirk in the 2016 film “Star Trek: Beyond.”
