Dayton Music Insider: Angels, Moonshine, & Temptations

In the same week, Dayton is hosting Corey Feldman and his "Angels," a "Spectacular Moonshine Concert," and blasts from the past including The Temptations, The Moody Blues, and The Gin Blossoms. You really can't make this stuff up!

This weekend sounds like an adventure in the making. Keep reading to find out how to choose yours!

Friday, June 30th

After work, head over to the Taco Truck Takeover at the Yellow Cab Food Truck Rally. Along with the tasty bites and brews, you can enjoy free music from local band Rite of Venus. The entire event runs from 5-10 p.m. Free admission.

You'll remember Gin Blossoms from the 90's, and yep, they are back in town at JD Legends in Franklin, right off 75. Free Parking with shuttle service is available at the Wal-Mart 1/4 mile away. Paid parking is also available near venue. Pull out chairs are permitted if the show is not sold out. All concerts are all ages unless otherwise stated. Show 6:30-11:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20. Another throw back show you can enjoy: The Temptations and The Four Tops at Rose Music Center. Listen to Temptation classics such as "The Way You Do The Things You Do," "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" among many more! The Four Tops are part of Motown history with their first hit in 1964. Take a trip down memory lane with this special show. Tickets start at $23.50 and up, which includes parking. Ticketmaster fees and day of show increase may apply. Doors 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Get ready to get down to three sets of music with  Jericho Thyme  and special guest Scott Lee performing between sets at Trolley Stop . Yep, that means non-stop music, along with that lovely patio on a summer evening. Sounds perfect! 9:30 p.m. 21+ $5 cover.

Blues fans will be heading over to see local legend Noah Wootherspoon at Oregon Express. 21+ $5 cover.

Arrows of Neon are celebrating their 5 Year Anniversary where it all started: One Eyed Jacks near Wright State. This is a FREE SHOW! Woohoo! I know where all my jam band friends will be partying! 10 p.m.-1 a.m.

South of town, check out The Old Crow Bar  in Middletown, who welcomes Rite of Venus, Sharon Lane, and the Brown Street Breakdown for a night of soulful blues. 9 p.m. 21+ $5 cover.

Road Trip: Every great once in awhile, I'll mention a special show happening just outside of Dayton. This weekend, if you are up for a little road trip down to Cincinnati, it's well worth it. Paradise on the Point is a free 2-day festival at Sawyer Point that is overflowing with amazing national and local acts including: Turquaz (they are ah-mazing!),  The Infamous String Dusters, Lettuce (the funkiest of the funk!), Trevor Hall, Peridoni, Ernie Johnson from Detroit, and many more. Check the schedule here. Saturday night is going to be epic!

2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Moody Blues and you can help them celebrate at Fraze Pavilion on Saturday night! This beloved band remembers their first album with this tour, aptly titled "Days of Future Passed 50th Anniversary Tour." If you're a fan, this is a "don't miss" event! Tickets are $46, and are subject to a $5 increase the day of show. 7:30 p.m. showtime.

A very fun local show is happening downtown with Patchwork Moonlight, Rite of Venus, and Lord Kimbo at Oregon Express. I heard LK really laid it out at Trolley Stop last weekend, so I'm looking forward to catching them soon! 21+ $5 cover.

An interesting punk rock night at Blind Bob's with  500 Miles to Memphis (alternative country punk rock)  Gee Gee's Punk Rock All Stars, and Red Hot Rebellion . 9 p.m. 21+ $5 cover.

Enjoy an intimate night of Jazz with national recording artist SaxTone at  Gilly's Jazz . $10 advance, $15 day of show. 7 p.m.

A local fan favorite, Angela Perley, is back in town with her Howlin' Moons at Trolley Stop.  Always a fun show! 9:30 p.m. 21+ $5 cover.

Up north, the  Madness Inside celebrates their new album "I Now Pronounce You" with very special guests Far from Eden, Transylvania Hellhounds, and Deadbolt. Head over to  Oscar's Bar in Vandalia for an evening of heavy metal and hard rock. 8 p.m.-2 a.m.

In Yellow Springs, be sure to catch Rachel Litteral and the Abstracts at Peach's Grill. 10 p.m.

Jeremy and Lynne host three " Spectacular Moonshine Concerts " at Taffy's in Eaton. They invite at least three other incredible bands or musicians to this event and these concerts are made for dancing, hollering, drinking moonshine and forgiving the past. Saturday night's line up includes: Joel and Adrienne at 8pm, Mark Cantwil at 9pm, Truk at 10pm, and The Typical Johnsons at 11 p.m.

Sunday, July 2nd

Two-time Grammy winner Jason Isbell and his band the 400 Unit will make a stop at Rose Music Center . Monday, July 3rd

Eighties heartthrob  Corey Feldman  is indeed performing at Oddbody's Music Room. I've been asked many times if this show is real. Yes, it is! This stop is part of "Corey's Heavenly Tour: Angelic 2 The U.S." tour. It's gonna be something! I'm intrigued to see what happens. Tickets range from $30-$105. Doors 5 p.m. Show 5:30 p.m. 18+
