Kick Cancer's Ass
event is dear to my heart. I'm always amazed at how generous our music scene is in Dayton. Every single weekend, there is a live music benefit show happening. Please show the music scene your love, by supporting them back!
Find out all the details on these shows and more below.
Friday October 14th
Friday night you can catch some of Dayton's classic original acts, including The Boxcar Suite, Cherry Lee & The Hotrod Hounds and Puzzle of Light. So hard to choose between, but if you're like me, just bounce around and catch them all!
The Boxcar Suite
, a rock band for the ages, will be performing with Cincinnati's
Flying Underground
at Jimmie's Ladder 11. Rockabilly band Cherry Lee & The Hotrod Hounds performs at Blind Bob's. And last but certainly not least, Dayton favorites
Puzzle of Light
will be at the Trolley Stop. All shows start around 9:30pm with a $5 cover. 21+
In Yellow Springs, at the
Emporium
, check out Boston-based multi-instrumentalist
Ian Ethan Case, best known for his innovative approach to the 18-string acoustic double-neck guitar. He's performing an early set, from 6:30-10pm, so get out there early to grab a seat! No cover.
Saturday October 15th

The 4th Annual Kick Cancer's Ass at Blind Bob's features great local rock bands including
Ghost Town Silence, McGuff and the Dumpster Fires, Good Luck Year, and R.I.N.D. Al
l proceeds of the $5 cover charge benefit the Gala of Hope Foundation. 21+
Another incredible show this weekend is at the
Victoria Theatre
, with
The Lonesome River Band, Nightflyer, and The Repeating Arms. If you love bluegrass, folk or traditional music, this is a "don't miss" event, for sure. Tickets are $20 and available online at TicketCenterStage.com, at the Box Office, or by phone at 937-228-3630 or 888-228-3630.
A great after show to the aforementioned, or stand alone, would be checking out
Wild Mountain Berries
at Oregon Express. They are a rockin' duet who perform a blend of Americana, Blues, Jazz, Country, and folk that is tied together with a beautiful vocals. Music usually starts around 9:30pm with a $5 cover.
Country fans, check out
Charlie Farley
at
Oddbody's Music Room
. He's one of those new country rappers, which is certainly different from the regular pop country that saturates the radio these days! Doors 7pm. Show 7:30pm $15 advance. $20 day of show.
West of town the
Dayton Underground Series
has it's next installment at Courtyard Lounge in Englewood. This collection of original music is referred to as the "Rock Revolution" - which includes Eaton's
ViFolly
, a 4 piece alternative rock band,
Far From Eden
is a 5 piece, female-fronted group, and
The Transylvania Hellhounds
is a 4 piece hard rock group that is sure to rip you a new earhole! Advance Tickets are $8 from all performing acts. You can also order tickets

Out by Wright State, you can get your Halloween fun on early with the
Halloween Pre-Party
at One Eyed Jacks. This will be a funky evening with
Krunk Town Boogie, The Willy Clark Band, Subsonik Riddle and Romona
. $5 cover. Come dressed in a costume and save 2 dollars at the door! 18+ with proper ID.
Sunday October 16th
If your weekend doesn't stop Sunday evening, or if it's just getting started, check out
Lunar Lounge, Joe Wannabe and the Mad Man's Blues Band,
Coming Up For Air, and Mainline Funk at Blind Bob's
. This is a great evening of eclectic music from funk, blues and rock starting at 9pm. Enjoy!
Wednesday October 19th
Tune into WYSO 91.3 for a live preview of
The Bootlegger's Ball, A Night of Americana Music
on the Kaleidescope show from 8-9pm. It's a short show due to the Presidential debate, but they are planning on a lot of great music with
Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle
live in the studio and a conversation with
The Way Down Wanderers.
The Weekly Wednesday Family Dinner Jam
at Therapy Cafe is still happening weekly from 8pm - 2am. Marcus Cornwell of The Vibe hosts this plug and play jam for local musicians. Visual artists are also encouraged to attend! There are easels available for anyone who wants to come and create during the jam.
In the spirit of community fellowship, they serve a free dinner until all of the food is gone. Since Yom Kippur falls on Wednesday, Jewish favorites will be the food theme for the week. Any budding culinarians are welcome to add the menu. Doors are at 8pm, dinner starts at 8:30pm, and music begins at 9pm. All ages! This is a completely free event!
