How to avoid traffic and parking headaches at Dayton Air Show

It’s almost Dayton Air Show weekend. The most frustrating aspects of any big event can be getting there and parking.

Here are some travel tips that anyone headed to the show should know.

TRAFFIC

The number one tip is to arrive early to avoid heavy traffic. Delays are expected on National Road and Dixie Drive throughout Air Show weekend. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

WHERE TO PARK

Due to the recent heavy rains, an alternate parking plan is in place for this weekend’s events. The show in cooperation with the Dayton International Airport and police agencies have developed a new plan to place spectator vehicles on paved lots. The Alternate Parking site will be the Emery/UPS Freight Facility, located on Old Springfield Road north of the airport. All spectator parking, including General Admission, P-Lot and VIP will be directed to the Alternate Parking site. 60 large shuttle buses will be available to transport spectators to and from the show grounds on an Express route inside the airport perimeter.

The quickest route to the Alternate Parking site is Exit 32 off I-70. Digital signs will direct guests west on W National Road, north on Dog Leg Road, and east on Old Springfield Road.

You can also use Exit 64 off I-75, but expect slower traffic, since Dixie Highway narrows to a single lane.

To ensure quick and easy access, the show recommends arriving before 10 a.m.

COST: The cost to park on site is $10 per car and $20 for RVs, buses and other large vehicles.
