A Dayton-native who happens to also be a two-time Grammy nominated children’s songwriter, cartoonist and author is coming back home for a free concert this weekend.

Morgan Taylor will be in Centerville for his annual Gustafer Yellowgold Thanksgiving Food Drive performance meant for all ages at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Southminster Presbyterian Church. The drive is accepting non-perishable food donations to support Southminster's FISH Food Pantry, which provides groceries to lower income individuals and families in the south Dayton region.

The New York Times describes the story of Gustafer Yellowgold as "Dr. Seuss meets 'Yellow Submarine'," and Variety magazine calls Morgan's creation "Intelligent, endearing and slightly subversive." But who exactly is Gustafer Yellowgold? That is a good question.

A Kettering native, Taylor cut his teeth in several bands over his younger years before moving to New York City in 1999. There, he honed his songwriting craft and created Gustafer Yellowgold, a friendly yellow creature who came from the sun and now resides in Minnesota. Over the past 10 years, Taylor has performed multimedia shows of live music and colored-pencil animations, opening for bands like Wilco with stories of Gustafer’s adventures.

“Gustafer Yellowgold is funny and touching all-ages alternative music and storytelling with whimsical songs that are filled with super-catchy narratives explaining the life of a friendly alien from the Sun. On ‘I’m From The Sun,’ listeners ride along with 9-year old “sunling” Gustafer in this otherworldly, melancholy musical comedy that takes place entirely on our closest star — The Sun! The Audible Original Production also features a special bonus in Chapter 14, with an exclusive full album of the music featured in ‘I’m From the Sun,’ ” according to a press release.
