Warehouse being transformed into video games for Masquerage

So you say you want to party inside of the game?
Masquerage — Equitas Health's annual fundraiser dubbed the party of parties — takes on gaming with its 2019 theme "Push Play."

"You will feel like you are in several different games as you walk through the space," Jostin Schimmoeller, the event's manager, explained. The event begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the 804 Building, 804 E. Monument Ave. in downtown Dayton.

General Admission tickets are $65. Admission to the Red Ribbon Lounge is $150 a person and includes access to two lounges, drinks, refreshments and a swag bag at the end of the night.

There will be a raffle.

Schimmoeller said 804 Building was perfect for the event, which will feature a first-floor labyrinth maze set up with elements that pay homage to the video game movie “Tron” and a list of games that includes Candy Land.

The second floor will hold a dance floor and stage for performance by the Rubi Girls, a comedy dance troupe, and Transylvanian Convention, a “Rocky Horror Picture Show” group.

The building’s owners support Equitas mission and were on board to help create a unique experience, Schimmoeller said.

“It is very cool. It is definitely that warehouse party feel, and it is a convenient location,” he added.

Masquerage is one of Equitas’ largest annual fundraisers.

Since its inception in 2002, the event has raised more than $1.5 million.

The event raises awareness and critical funds for HIV/AIDS medical care and treatment, HIV prevention (including PrEP), and a variety of other services like primary care, behavioral health counseling, and dental care — one the highest unmet needs for those living with HIV, organizers say.

Costumes are encouraged and masks are required for the event.

Schimmoeller said he expects many people will comes dressed as characters from video and board games.

The theme was chosen by Equitas Health’s Dayton associate board and based partly on feedback from past party-goers who wanted a little more direction, Schimmoeller said.

“We wanted to give folks a theme that was broad while making sure that people could connect to it in a little way that is a little less ambiguous,” he said.
