Donated items such as book bags, batteries, soap, toothbrushes, flashlights, first-aid supplies and bug spray will be accepted through Monday, Oct. 22, then will be shipped the hard-hit panhandle region of coastal Florida, probably Mexico Beach, according to Lisa Tucker, co-owner of Bill’s Donut Shop.
Since Bill’s first started collecting donations for victims of natural disasters, after the Joplin tornadoes in 2011, “whenever there is a disaster, our phone starts ringing” with people wanting to donate.

“In this community, everyone wants to help,” Tucker said.
Tucker said McAfee Heating & Air Conditioning and Star Cartage Transportation Services collaborated to provide a semi-truck and driver to transport the donations.
