Dayton’s Century Bar named in Bourbon Review’s top Midwest bourbon bars

Yesterday, the Bourbon Review announced what we all already knew to be true: the Century Bar reigns supreme among area bourbon bars.

The Bourbon Review, a website dedicated to the bourbon-drinking lifestyle, chose 12 bourbon bars as their top picks for the Midwest as part of their annual review of bars nationwide, with our neighbor down south — Cincinnati — getting the only other Ohio shoutout with Japps Since 1879. It's no huge surprise, as the Century has been included on the Bourbon Review's top picks for at least the past two years.

“No jukebox. Just 115 Bourbons and over 300 whiskeys to choose from while you listen to music from the 1930s,” is the way the Bourbon Review describes the Century in a special writeup. We would add, some incredibly talented bartenders who not only know their bourbons, scotches, and other whiskeys, but whip up some mean cocktails. Plus, while the decor screams flapper outfit, you feel as comfortable dolled up as you do in jeans in there.

"This year is for you Dayton. Cheers! Midwest Region," the Century Bar posted on their Facebook page in celebration of the recognition.

The Century Bar, open since 1947 and located at 10 S. Jefferson in downtown Dayton, is a classic and classy bar that would fit right into larger and more cosmopolitan cities like Chicago or San Francisco, and we consider ourselves blessed that their roots are in Dayton, and that's where they plan to stay. This weekend, stop by, congratulate them, and celebrate with a delicious glass of bourbon or one of their sinfully smooth signature cocktails.
