Chicken restaurant shuts its doors in Centerville

STORY UPDATE: Buffalo Wings & Rings announces they’re exploring new location options

The Dayton area’s extraordinary surge in new-restaurant openings dedicated to fried chicken and wings the last few years may have claimed a victim.

The Buffalo Wings & Rings restaurant at 894 S. Main St. in the Centerville Square Shopping Center shut down for good on Monday February 5, according to a sign taped to the restaurant’s door.

“We are permanently closed!! We thank you for your patronage,” the sign says.

Messages left for Buffalo Wings & Rings officials late Monday had not been returned. The Washington Twp. restaurant is a franchise-owned store, and its franchise operators could not be reached.

Wings & Rings operates eight other locations in the Cincinnati area as well as locations in Piqua and Lima.

Buffalo Wings & Rings was founded in 1984 in Cincinnati and operates 58 restaurants worldwide. Its menu includes includes wings, burgers, gyros, wraps, salads, sandwiches and quesadillas.

More than a dozen new restaurants that focus on fried chicken or chicken wings have opened across the Miami Valley in the last three years, and more are in the works, including a new Popeyes coming to Wilmington Pike in Kettering. Most of those new restaurants have opened in the southern half of Montgomery County, including several in the Centerville-Washington Twp. area where Wings & Rings was located.
