And finally, in the Beef category, 1572 Roadhouse scored a 2nd place award for its Smoky Maple sauce, while Englewood restaurant Company 7 BBQ won 3rd place for its "Chief Smoky" sauce. The same Company 7's sauce won first place in the same category in 2015.

That’s an extraordinary showing for both 1572 Roadhouse Bar-B-Q and for southwest Ohio in general. The national competition drew 197 entries, and the Barbecue News specialty publication and web site named “top 10” sauces in each of the three categories. The state of Ohio had more entries than any other state with 31, followed by Texas.
Last year, 1572 Roadhouse — led by pitmasters Chris Cavender and Mike Tenore — also captured 1st place for its "All About The Meat" beef rub in a separate National Barbecue News 2016 Rubs of Honor competition.
