Ben Czajka, a partner in the franchisee that oversees four Dayton-area stores for Piqua-based Winans Chocolates + Coffees, is planning to open a new Winans chocolate, coffee and wine shop at 221 N. Patterson Blvd. near East Monument Avenue in downtown Dayton.

“We have signed a lease to go into the first floor of a CareSource building at the corner of Patterson and Monument, with our storefront on the Patterson Boulevard side facing Fifth Third Field,” Czajka said. “We are hoping to open late this year.”
Co-franchisee Whitney Wedding will oversee most of the day-to-day operations of the new store, Czajka said.

The franchise corporation applied to the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control on Tuesday for a wine and mixed beverages license to operate at the downtown Dayton location.

The Piqua-based Winans chain traces its roots to the late 1800s, and is now under the fourth generation of family ownership of Joe Reiser and Laurie Winans Reiser. The chain operates about a dozen Dayton-area locations and has added stores in recent years in Wapakoneta and Columbus, and is also adding a second location in Springfield.
