Local cafe & music venue branches out to offer healthy meal-prep dishes

Mila’s Suburban Cafe in Englewood offers special recipes that are not on its regular menu

A cafe and music venue that opened more than a year ago in the Northmont Plaza in Englewood is branching out into meal-preparation.

Mila's Suburban Cafe at 606 Taywood Road has launched "Meal Prep by Mila's Cafe," designed for people who are "busy, on the go and want healthy meal options," according to the cafe's meal-prep web site.

Mila’s Cafe owners Michael and LaTasha Perry started offering the meal-prep option last weekend, and they told this news outlet that the program “was very well received.”

“The potential by this initial response seems to have some traction,” the Perrys said. “We have discovered that this group of customers want healthier meal options but don't have the time to prepare them. That's where we step in. We offer healthy, fully-prepared meals that are macro portioned with quality, locally sourced ingredients.”

Participants place their orders via the web site by 3 p.m. Saturday, and then have two options for pickup of their prepared meals: Sunday or Wednesday between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Perrys have created a starting menu but will also offer weekly specials. The regular menu includes items such as Sweet Potato Chickpea Bowl, with roasted sweet potatoes, onion, kale and chickpeas with a tahini-maple sauce ($7.50); Mediterranean Bowl, with mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and olives with house-made hummus ($7.50); and Santa Fe Chicken Bowl with grilled chicken, bell peppers, red onion, cauliflower rice and shredded Mexican cheese ($8.50).

None of the meal-prep offerings are on the cafe’s regular menu, the Perrys said.
