“About three years ago we started looking for a second location so we could expand our brand,” new owner Larry Parr said.
The purchase was made official in November, however, Parr has opted to gradually introduce the Paradise Key Cafe brand to current customers in hopes of retaining them while adding new ones.
He’s already begun to replace the previous menu with his versions of the same product. For example, the burgers and wings previously on the Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers menu have been supplanted for the Paradise Key Cafe food items, which Parr says are almost entirely fresh.
The full menu will feature specials like T-bone steak Mondays, half slab of ribs Tuesdays and all-you-can-eat fish Fridays, and delivery service will be available.
“All the staff that were (already) here, we rehired. They’re doing a fine job and we’re hoping they can make the transition. When I’m comfortable, then we’ll completely roll out that menu,” Parr explained.

Parr, who opened the original Paradise Key Cafe in 2009, has a long background steeped in the service and hospitality industry. There will also be updates to the space, such as a new sound system -- which has already been installed -- and a new pool table. Paradise Key Cafe South will maintain the 20 screens, with a few upgrades where necessary for sports fans, but Parr insists it will not just be a sports bar.
“People from all walks of life are welcome. We like to think of our brand as being the Key West of Dayton, Ohio. When you go to Paradise it looks like a place where we should be sitting on the beach in Florida. It’s kind of a laid back, great food, great fun atmosphere,” Parr said.
Additional changes already in place include live trivia every Tuesdays and karaoke on Saturdays. Parr said he hopes to have the full Paradise Key Cafe concept, new sign and all, in place sometime in February of 2017.
