Beloved Dayton bakery takes its coffee to the ‘next level’

Maybe the only thing missing from your Ashley’s Pastry Shop routine is local, quality coffee? Not anymore.

"We know coffee pairs perfectly with our delicious donuts and pastries, so you can now pick up a freshly brewed cup when you swing by in the morning. We think coffee goes great with our cookies and cupcakes, too," read a post on the Ashley's Pastry Shop Blog.

The finalist in the 2018 Best of Dayton Best Bakery contest and past winner has just announced its partnership with Rooted Grounds Coffee Company. Until recent months, the Oakwood bakery sold generic, lower-quality roasts, according to Ashley's Pastry Shop owner, Theresa Hammons. Six months ago, the bakery decided to take the quality of coffee that it sold to the next-level, without doing an expansive coffeehouse menu.

"Rooted Grounds built its first micro-roastery in Cincinnati. Because they are committed to quality, Rooted Grounds carefully and consistently roasts coffee beans in small, 25 pound batches. This process, along with delivering fresh from the roaster, ensures a cup of coffee that customers love," according to an Ashley's Pastry blog. "Along with quality, Rooted Grounds is committed to the communities it serves, giving back a portion of proceeds to different organizations, like BOGG Ministries, Reach Out Lakota and the Marvin Lewis Community Fund."

Coffee can be purchased for $1.75 for a 12-ounce cup.
