Now you can ship this classic Dayton treat for the holidays

Want to share a taste of Dayton with others far away? Are you a Daytonian living elsewhere missing said taste? If your answer is yes to either of those questions, help is on the way—by mail.

For the first time in its long history, Smales Pretzel Bakery will begin shipping its soft pretzels anywhere in the country in time for the holidays. Fifth-generation owner Emma Smales says she is still working out the final details, but says she intends to have flat rate shipping anywhere in the U.S. She is also open to international shipping if there is a demand for it.

Visitors to the bakery’s Facebook page this week were put in full drool mode after a picture of the popular pretzels being prepared to be covered in Esther Price – another Dayton favorite – milk chocolate for a special order was posted. Though not an official partnership, Smales says she likes the idea.

“We don’t have a partnership with Esther Price. But I am open to the idea,” Smales said.

The bakery, founded in 1895, also recently upgraded its facility with the purchase of a $35,000 pretzel making machine to boost production.
