This news comes after a Feb. 26 Facebook post stating the former manager had decided to move on.
“I hope I made you proud,” she wrote. “You asked me to help you in 2015 when your health was failing. Little did I know what I was getting into at the time. You always taught me to work hard, give 110%, and do what makes sense. I hope you can see I did that... for you. I wanted your bar to succeed. I wanted to carry your name forward and help the family at a time when we all felt a little lost.”
She also said she poured her heart, soul, energy, love and commitment into the bar for nearly eight years.
“Huge thanks to all my loyal customers. I hope I made YOU proud,” the post said.
According the bar’s website, Elmer Kramer opened Kramers in 1933 amidst the prohibition.
“It wasn’t until the prohibition lifted that Elmer was able to add carry out beer, and open the local bar,” the website said. “Kramers was known as a sports bar because many people would choose Kramers as there place to “tailgate” before UD basketball and football games.”
For 55 years, Kramers was solely owned and run by the Kramer family. In 1988, Tom Zimmerman joined the current owner at the time and added a pizza oven, simple bar food and liquor, the website said.
“To this day, Kramers is still family owned and operated through the legacy of Tom Zimmerman,” the website said. “The bar has kept it’s original cement structure (used to keep the beer cold back in the 30′s) and turn table/carousel style beer cooler. Kramers is one of the few bars in the nation to carry 40 ounce beers which might be why they are referred to as the “Home of the 40′s.””
