Our Bill's Donuts among best donut shops in nation

The world is learning our secret: Bill's donuts are the bomb.

Bill's Donut Shop -- yes, our Bill's Donut Shop -- has once again been named among the best in the nation.

The shop makes the donuts the Cream Pies bragged about in song, and on Ellen.

They are the donuts that hometown girl Alexis Gomez, a recent American Idol contestant, can't get enough of.

And they are the donuts fans munched on after participating in a 5K this weekend benefiting A Special Wish Foundation.

As our friend Mark Fisher first reported today on DaytonDailyNews.com, the hits keep coming for Bill's, the business Bill and Faye Elam first opened in downtown Dayton in 1960.

Bill's "still captures the essence of the original, especially when you bite into their incredible apple spice, sour creme, white-iced jelly, and famous pretzel donuts," Thrillist.com says when listing Bill's among the "33 best Donut shops in America."

Makes me hungry just reading that description.

The business moved to 268 N. Main St in Centerville, the only remaining Bill's location, in 1967 and is now owned by the Elams' children.

Saveur magazine listed Bill's among the "50 Finest Donut Shops in America" in 2013.
