DARRYL DEMURE

What do you do?

I am an Independent Producer for Dayton Access Television (DATV) best known for "Harper' s Bazzaroworld."

Label yourself

African American LGBT citizen.

Let’s say you could be a mythical creature. Which would you be?

Mermaid!

What do you love about life in Dayton?

Life in Dayton is very inexpensive, and we are rich in culture.

What would you do for the perfect date here?

I would keep it simple. I love going to the Victoria Theatre (126 N. Main St, Dayton) in the summer and watching classic movies. There is an older gentleman that plays a singalong organ, which is very interactive with the audience. After the movie, a walk along RiverScape MetroPark (111 E. Monument Ave., Dayton) There is a perfect view of the large water fountains that can be seen from the swings placed along RiverScape.

Where do you go for fun?

I love the Oregon District. As a former resident, I still call the area home especially the local businesses, cafes and clubs.

Where do you take friends who come into town?

If you have a palate for wine, The Wine Gallery (5 W. Monument Ave., Dayton) on the river, is a charming place to bring guests to entertain. I love it because it brings an air of sophistication to Dayton, but at the same time is a casual place to let your hair down.

What would you change about Dayton?

I see a lot of people moving back to Downtown Dayton. I’d like to see those same new neighbors invest in a larger community market close to where they live — something in walking distance next to the new condos. Seeing that community effort happen in their backyard could start a chain reaction.

What should people know about Dayton?

That it is very safe and secure in downtown Dayton. We have a dog park (Deeds Point Dog Park) as well, and there is so much to do.

What is the Gem City’s biggest hidden gem?

The Arcade, which was built in 1902 for $2 million. We need a Telethon with Jim Bucher hosting! This building is one of three buildings in the world with a delicate glass roof.

What is the Gem City’s biggest hidden gem part 2?

Downtown Dayton!

Is Ms. Demure right? Is the Arcade one of the city's biggest hidden gems?
