Dayton shop saves the day for Texas singer who kicked off Levitt Pavilion’s first concert season

Werk, Dayton. Werk!

An airport snafu meant that Texas-based Latin singer Gina Chavez arrived in Dayton to open the brand new Levitt Pavilion at Dave Hall Plaza Thursday — sans luggage.

After the stressful travel mishap (far too many of us know what that is like), the band appeared on a WYSO show in its studio in Yellow Springs.

Karen Bledsoe, the public radio station's director of underwriting, hipped Chavez and her crew to Clash at 521 E 5th St. in Dayton's Oregon District.

It was there in the eleventh hour that Chavez found the gorgeous black-and-white striped and floral gown she wore to open up the pavilion’s first season.

The singer praised Clash and Texas Beef & Cattle Company in Dayton's Wright-Dunbar neighborhood during her show.

“We had quite an experience getting here and y’all are well-worth it,” Chavez told the crowd.

Levitt Pavilion will offer 34 free concerts through Oct. 7 by a list of musicians known locally, nationally and internationally who play a range of music that includes jazz, rock, blues, folk, R&B, country, pop, world and children’s music.

Two-time Grammy-winning jazz Paul Brown will take the stage at 7 p.m. tonight, Aug. 10, as part of a show with Chris Standring.

Paul Thorn and the Blind Boys of Alabama will perform 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 as part of The 2018 Levitt National Tour presented by the Levitt Foundation.

Trout Fishing in America takes the stage 3 p.m.  Sunday, Aug. 12.
