Christopher’s Restaurant, a long-time favorite in Kettering, closed and reopened in a kind-hearted way.
Days after the restaurant and catering company temporarily closed in March because of the coronavirus pandemic, the owners, Dave and Erika Krites, arranged a fund-raising effort for local kids.
“Erika and I knew right away that we started this shutdown off helping the kids and we wanted to end it the same way,” Dave Krites said in a news release.
Recently the restaurant held a special “soft opening” to prepare to reopen for dine-in service.
The Krites picked up the tab for the diners and asked them to donate money to the Kettering Backpack Program, an organization that helps feed at-risk students in the community.
The special meal raised almost $1,500.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support the community has given us since we were first shut down for dine in, and now, overwhelmed by the love and support of our returning dine- in customers,” said Erika Krites.
