JUST IN: Arepas & Co closes one of its 3 Colombian restaurants

Washington Twp. location that opened in 2017 is shut down for family medical issues; Kettering and downtown Dayton restaurants still open

The newest of the three Arepas & Co Colombian Comfort Food restaurants in the Dayton area has shut its doors, while the other two locations remain open.

The locally owned restaurant chain has closed its location at 1000 Miamisburg-Centerville Road (Ohio 725) in Washington Twp., between Centerville and I-675. The restaurant had opened in June 2017. Its two other restaurants, in Kettering and downtown Dayton, will remain open, according to Arepas & Co co-founder Lisa Perdomo.

Perdomo confirmed the closure of the Washington Twp. location this morning, Nov. 27, and said family medical issues led to the decision to close. “We are focusing on our two core locations,” Perdomo said. “Family comes first.”

The Perdomos opened their first location inside the Second Street Market in downtown Dayton in 2012,  using the market as an incubator and a springboard to open free-standing locations. They opened what was then their second location in March 2014 at 1122 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering. Another Arepas opened in the former Olive Urban Dive space at 416 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton in January 2016.

The couple shut down their Second Street Market food booth in September 2017, shortly after opening the Washington Twp. restaurant.
