The National Weather Service said the thermometer in Phoenix climbed to 118 degrees, breaking the old mark of 115 for July 7 that was set in 1905, the Arizona Republic reported.
The normal high temperature for July 7 in Phoenix is 107 degrees, the Republic reported.
It was the twelfth time Phoenix has had a maximum high temperature of 118, according to the National Weather Service. Phoenix also has had six cases of 119 degrees as a record high.
