“The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote” details battle for women’s right to vote

The author of a book optioned by Steven Spielberg and Hillary Clinton will be the keynote speaker at this year’s League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area Dangerous Dames of Dayton 2019 event.

Elaine Weiss, author of “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote,” will kick off a year of a celebration March 22 at NCR Country Club in Kettering, leading up to the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in March 2020.

The book describes the battle over the 19th Amendment and is planned as a drama for television by filmmaker Spielberg’s Amblin Television and former Secretary of State Clinton in her debut as an executive producer.

This year, the Dangerous Dames award will go to Vivienne Himmell and Joyce Young, longtime members of the League who will be honored for carrying on the organization’s work for more than 50 years.

An original artwork by Emily Buddendeck named, “The Shoulders of Giants,” will also be presented during the evening.
