A Dayton-area restaurant veteran has sold one of his restaurants to a new owner who has plans to expand the eatery’s menu.
The CBCB Bar & Grill at 2495 Commons Blvd. was sold by Bob Byers — who also owns Carmel’s and The Somewhere Lounge in Dayton, and operated Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers in downtown Dayton for 21 years — to Michelle Brad of Centerville.
Brad told this news outlet that she intends to keep the CBCB name and take other steps to maintain continuity.
“I plan on keeping the current staff and counting on them to continue to providing great service and good food to our current customers,” Brad said. “My goal is to create many new specials for customers that will create more traffic to the restaurant. We also plan to add some more food items, such as breakfast.”
Brad said she and her brother, Pete Jazenski of Miamisburg, have considered operating a business together. A few months ago, Brad had a conversation with Kenneth Hattan, president of Washington Twp.-based Acquisition Services, who “encouraged me to look at some opportunities he had with some local business,” she said.
Brad has no previous restaurant experience, but she has more than 25 years of experience in business. “Both my brother and I have worked at many restaurants and bars during our lives,” she said. She shared the idea of purchasing CBCB Bar & Grill with her brother, and both liked the location near the Mall at Fairfield Commons, which Brad said “provides a lot of opportunities to grow, and we have a good location and plenty of parking.”
She and her brother “decided to move forward,” Brad said. Hattan and Acquisition Services brokered the sale of the business in the leased space. Brad said she will oversee the restaurant on a day-to-day basis, she said.
CBCB Bar & Grill founder Bob Byers said it was “a little bittersweet” to sell the restaurant he launched in 2011 in space that formerly held a Moe’s Southwest Grill.
“The place was really coming into its own in such a crowded competitive market,” Byers told this news outlet. “But I am approaching the retirement zone, and Carmel’s (Byers other restaurant in south Dayton) is going gangbusters.”
Byers has been involved in the Dayton-area restaurant scene for decades. In 1995, he became owner of the Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers American Bar & Grill on South Jefferson Street in downtown Dayton, which he operated for 21 years. He purchased Carmel’s on Shroyer Road near the Dayton-Oakwood border in 2006, and he is also the owner of the Somewhere Lounge at 1066 Patterson Road in Dayton.
When he opened the CBCB Bar & Grill in 2011, Byers said he blended the menus and concepts of Carmel’s and Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers.
