Warming trend kicks off; Breezy and sunny today

A warming trend starts today, with clearing skies and highs around 45 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

It will be breezy during the day with wind gusts of up to 25 mph.

Clouds are expected to increase again after midnight tonight, though, as temperatures fall below freezing to around 29 degrees.

Tomorrow, it will be cloudy, breezy and a little warmer, with highs around 54 degrees. It will be mostly dry during the day, with a slight chance for showers after dark.

On Thursday night, rain chances will rise, with showers likely after midnight. Temperatures are expected to be cold but remain above freezing, with lows around 40 degrees.

Friday will be breezy and rainy, with showers likely throughout the morning. Some communities will see more than half an inch of rain, but severe conditions are not expected.

Widespread rain chances will trail off in the afternoon.

Temperatures will be mild, with highs in the low 50s and lows will drop to around 43 degrees.
